Job description

Role Overview

This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping and directing enterprise-wide procurement for a large commercial food manufacturing business based in San Antonio, Texas. The role focuses on strengthening supply continuity, improving profitability, and supporting long-term growth through strategic sourcing, supplier partnerships, and procurement transformation.

What You'll Do

  • Create and implement procurement strategies that align with growth goals, margin improvement, reliable supply, and overall shareholder value.
  • Lead the development of a high-caliber procurement team that supports the company’s long-range business plan.
  • Advance procurement modernization efforts across North America.
  • Position procurement as a trusted strategic partner across the organization.
  • Oversee purchasing across major categories such as ingredients, packaging, contract manufacturing, MRO, and logistics.
  • Manage sourcing for capital equipment, facilities, information technology, corporate services, and other indirect spend areas.
  • Design category plans that improve supplier execution, lower costs, and build lasting competitive advantage.
  • Set and execute sourcing strategies for agricultural and commodity inputs including grains, flour, wheat, dairy, cocoa, sweeteners, edible oils, and similar materials.
  • Handle commodity price swings while protecting margins and maintaining supply availability.
  • Drive procurement transformation through artificial intelligence, analytics, digital tools, and automation.
  • Use data-led decision-making to strengthen category management across the business.
  • Improve supplier performance tracking to increase efficiency and support continuous improvement.
  • Build scalable procurement processes and promote ongoing operational improvement.
  • Develop strong supplier relationships that support innovation, quality, resilience, and long-term business value.
  • Strengthen supplier performance management and identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Coach, mentor, and grow a capable procurement organization, including future leaders and succession planning.
  • Promote accountability, high performance, and professional development within the team.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is mandatory; an MBA or other advanced qualification is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain leadership.
  • Executive-level leadership experience in commercial food manufacturing is required.
  • Experience in commercial baking is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success managing procurement in large, complex manufacturing environments.
  • Background leading procurement for 30 or more manufacturing sites, or organizations of comparable scale.
  • Proven history of overseeing procurement spend above $500 million.
  • Experience leading multi-tier procurement teams and building high-performing organizations.
  • Ability to work closely with executive leadership and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Exposure to food manufacturing, ingredient manufacturing, or consumer packaged goods is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural supply chains and multi-site operations.
  • Experience in enterprise procurement, commodity sourcing, and supply chain transformation programs.
  • Hands-on experience sourcing major commodities such as flour, wheat, grains, dairy, cocoa, and other agricultural ingredients.
