Vice President Operations

UNIS is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Vice President of Operations to spearhead the growth and efficiency of its Trucking, Drayage, and Brokerage divisions. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, this executive role is pivotal in driving operational performance, ensuring profitability, maintaining service excellence, developing talent, and executing strategic growth initiatives across the transportation sector. The ideal candidate is a seasoned logistics executive with extensive experience in various transportation modes, a proven history of cultivating high-performing teams, and a strong dedication to accountability, process optimization, and customer satisfaction. A key requirement is the embrace of AI and automation as essential tools for enhancing operational efficiency and fostering business expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Trucking, Drayage, and Brokerage departments.
  • Focus on enhancing operational performance, elevating service quality, ensuring on-time deliveries, and improving profit margins.
  • Develop and implement scalable operational strategies designed to accommodate significant business growth.
  • Recruit, train, and lead effective teams, cultivating an environment of accountability and ownership.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and other executive leaders to support customer acquisition, retention, and overall profitability.
  • Streamline workflows, refine processes, and enhance operational infrastructure to boost efficiency and scalability.
  • Promote and implement AI, automation, and technology solutions to increase productivity and improve decision-making.
  • Supervise KPI reporting, establish operational controls, ensure compliance, monitor carrier performance, and uphold customer service standards.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong executive-level relationships with key clients, carriers, and strategic partners.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience within the transportation, logistics, 3PL, brokerage, or multi-modal operations sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in Trucking (TL/OTR), Drayage, and Brokerage operations.
  • Demonstrated success in building, stabilizing, and scaling organizations within the high-growth transportation industry.
  • Robust financial understanding, including experience with budget management, margin analysis, and operational KPIs.
  • Proven ability to lead large, cross-functional teams effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience utilizing AI, automation, and transportation technology platforms to achieve superior operational outcomes.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

VP of Operations AI Expectations
  • Exhibit practical proficiency with AI platforms and GPT-based tools, including prompt engineering, AI-driven decision support, and knowledge acceleration techniques.
  • Lead initiatives to automate workflows across operations, dispatch, tracking, issue resolution, and reporting, thereby reducing manual effort and expediting response times.
  • Promote the adoption of AI within the operations team by identifying potential applications, conducting pilot programs, and establishing best practices for sustainable AI-assisted workflows.
  • Assess and integrate AI-enhanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS), visibility platforms, and operations intelligence tools to elevate divisional performance.
  • Maintain a learning-oriented mindset, staying abreast of emerging logistics technologies, AI tools, and automation platforms, and actively sharing insights with the team.
  • Work closely with IT and product development teams to identify operational challenges that can be effectively addressed through AI and automation at scale.
