Job description
Role Overview
The Underground Nipper role is crucial for supporting underground mining operations at the Granny Smith gold mine in Laverton, Western Australia. This position involves assisting production and development crews with various tasks to maintain seamless and safe operations in a physically demanding and fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Underground Shift Supervisor, this role serves as an excellent entry point for those aiming to progress into underground operator positions.
Shift and Location
- Fly-in fly-out (FIFO) arrangement from Perth
- Rotating roster of 8 days on and 6 days off, alternating between 7 days and 7 nights shifts
Responsibilities
- Assist underground crews by delivering equipment, removing waste, providing ground support, and undertaking general assistance duties
- Support Jumbo operators with ground support activities including bolting, mesh installation, heading setup, and service crew tasks as needed
- Conduct pre-start inspections, identify and report hazards, and maintain high housekeeping standards
- Ensure personal fitness for work during all rostered shifts and actively contribute to promoting a strong safety culture
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Prior underground mining experience as a Nipper or Truck Driver is essential
- Physically fit with experience operating in challenging physical environments
- A strong emphasis on safety compliance and a responsible mindset
- Effective communication, teamwork, and accountability
- Possession of a current manual driver's license
- Holds current Dangerous Goods Security Card and Working at Heights certification
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory National Police Clearance
