UI/UX Product Designer

Overview

Balanced Body has spent close to five decades helping people move better through Pilates equipment and education. From its solar-powered Sacramento headquarters, the company designs premium products and experiences that support mindful movement and better well-being.

The marketing team is looking for a creative and strategically minded UI/UX Product Designer to shape the digital experience of the brand. This is primarily a design position, with responsibility spanning research, wireframes, prototypes, visual design, and final presentation-layer implementation in WordPress and Shopify. Backend development is not part of this role.

You will report to the Marketing Manager and work closely with the web development team to bring approved concepts into fully functioning digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Create refined, high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes in Figma with clear flows, strong hierarchy, and polished visual treatment.
• Design and improve ecommerce experiences, including product detail pages, category pages, navigation, merchandising areas, and conversion-focused landing pages while meeting WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and responsive design standards.
• Review analytics, heatmaps, and session recordings to identify friction, form ideas for improvement, and refine the user experience over time.
• Write or refine UX copy such as calls to action, error states, modals, onboarding text, and tooltips.
• Handle front-end visual implementation in WordPress and Shopify, ensuring responsive layouts align with approved Figma designs and design systems.
• Carry out user research, usability tests, and heuristic reviews to keep design decisions grounded in user needs and best practices.
• Collaborate across marketing, development, and SEO, making practical adjustments without losing design quality.
• Develop visual assets such as banners, icons, UI elements, and promotional graphics.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in UI/UX or product design, with the ability to independently manage major deliverables and timelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in a design-related field such as Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or HCI is preferred; comparable experience can be considered.
• A portfolio showing end-to-end product thinking, including UX flows, interaction design, responsive structures, and polished final output.
• Strong visual judgment for typography, color, and hierarchy.
• Solid understanding of design systems, component-based design, mobile-first principles, and adapting work across breakpoints.
• Advanced proficiency in Figma, including auto layout, variants, and design tokens, plus good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Experience working with the presentation layer in WordPress and Shopify, including Gutenberg/Elementor, theme configuration, and app integrations.
• Basic familiarity with HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, and responsive layout concepts to collaborate effectively with developers.
• Bonus exposure to localized, multilingual interfaces.
• Bonus awareness of how design choices influence SEO, page speed, and Core Web Vitals.
• Bonus experience using AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Figma Make to streamline workflows and component creation.
