Position Summary
The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day terminal operations and ensuring the effective delivery of transportation services to customers. This role is accountable for managing people, equipment, and processes efficiently and cost-effectively to achieve service, safety, and performance objectives. The Operations Manager serves as the primary operational leader on site and plays a critical role in maintaining service continuity, operational readiness, and customer satisfaction.
Location & Schedule
This position is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday, but flexibility is required as availability outside of regular business hours may be necessary to address urgent operational matters.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on leadership for terminal operations, including drivers, dispatch, and warehouse teams.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for operational issues affecting service, safety, customers, or employees.
- Oversee driver scheduling, coverage planning, and verification of hours worked.
- Support dispatch operations as needed, including troubleshooting service disruptions and resolving same-day operational challenges.
- Monitor service levels and customer commitments, implementing corrective actions for performance risks.
- Ensure performance goals are achieved across safety, quality, productivity, and people metrics.
- Champion and enforce Health & Safety standards, operational policies, and compliance requirements.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of terminal staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as fleet, safety, HR, and leadership to support equipment readiness, facility needs, and operational execution.
- Ensure operational continuity through effective planning, communication, and handoffs, enabling smooth business operations even when not physically present.
- Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with employees, customers, and leadership.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation operations, dispatch, terminal leadership, or fleet management.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising frontline teams in a high-volume operational setting.
- Working knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and dispatching procedures.
- High school diploma is required; post-secondary education is an advantage.

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word); experience with transportation management systems is beneficial.
