Role Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified Wagon Maintainer to join our Altona, VIC team on a full-time basis. This position involves conducting thorough examinations and maintenance tasks on rail rolling stock, strictly adhering to procedures and protocols to uphold a safe work environment and comply with Rail Safety and Occupational Health & Safety standards during both on-site and field activities. The role reports directly to the Service Delivery Manager.

Key Duties

  • Conduct arrival and departure train roll-by inspections ensuring rolling stock integrity.
  • Perform detailed mechanical checks of rail rolling stock meeting minimum Railways of Australia engineering standards.
  • Complete all required paperwork and certifications accurately and clearly.
  • Coordinate with transport companies and shunting teams using the radio system during rolling stock marshalling and depot operations.
  • Communicate inspection findings effectively to operations staff and Workshop Supervisor.
  • Maintain security of the workshop, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Follow supervisory instructions and carry out assigned tasks diligently.
  • Support the repair and servicing activities on company and client rolling stock.

Candidate Profile

  • Possession of a Trade Qualification or Railway Examiners Certificate.
  • Experience with rail rolling stock or railway equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems administration.
  • Strong compliance understanding of occupational health and safety regulations.
  • General engineering proficiency and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Railway track awareness certification and fitness to perform Rail Safety Worker duties at Category 2 level.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules including overtime, shifts, and weekends.
