Role Overview
The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for directing traffic safely around construction zones and road maintenance sites. This entails installing and removing traffic control equipment such as signs, cones, and barricades, using hand signals and other devices to guide motorists. The position demands keen attention to detail, the stamina to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and the ability to stand for prolonged periods.
Key Duties
- Set up traffic signs, cones, and control devices to reroute or manage vehicle flow in work zones.
- Regulate traffic movement effectively using stop/slow paddles.
- Communicate clearly with team members via two-way radios to coordinate traffic control efforts.
- Stand, walk, and reach to manage traffic for up to 10 hours daily.
- Lift and transport items weighing over 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles to deliver equipment to and from job sites while ensuring regular vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
- Adapt to exposure from weather elements, moving machinery, vehicle traffic, fumes, and particulate matter in a typically noisy environment.
- Follow all company policies and complete assigned duties promptly.
Qualification Criteria
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of background screening, including a motor vehicle records check.
- Passing drug testing and compliance with federal DOT standards.
- Use of required safety gear including safety-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and vest.
- Proficiency in operating two-way radios.
- Ability and willingness to work in diverse weather conditions and traffic situations.
- Strong communication skills to interact professionally with contractors and internal teams, ensuring exceptional customer service.
- Team-oriented attitude with dependable attendance and reliable transportation.
- Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and company Defensive Driver training.
- Availability to travel throughout the state, including overnight assignments and work during nights and weekends as necessary.
- Readiness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
