About the Role

Stowmarket Town Council, located at Milton House, Milton Road South, Suffolk IP14 1EZ, is seeking a Town Ranger to join its dedicated Operations Team. With a community of around 23,000 residents, the Council is committed to enhancing the local quality of life by managing essential services, green spaces, and community events such as the Food and Drink Festival, StowFest, and the Christmas Fayre. The Town Ranger position focuses on improving the appearance, safety, and upkeep of public spaces, making Stowmarket cleaner, greener, and more welcoming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a proactive and visible presence in maintaining clean, safe, and appealing public spaces throughout Stowmarket.
  • Perform hands-on public realm improvements, including managing vegetation, removing litter and graffiti, clearing pathways, pressure washing, assisting with planting, minor repairs, painting, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct approved spraying operations with attention to safety and accurate record-keeping.
  • Use a ward-based approach to deliver consistent area improvements and document all completed work to highlight positive impacts.
  • Support bi-weekly market activities such as setup, takedown, waste handling, signage placement, and safety inspections.
  • Inspect and maintain play areas, public assets, vehicles, tools, and equipment to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Assist with civic and community events, environmental projects, grounds upkeep, estate enhancements, and responsive operational tasks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, community groups, and partners to enrich public spaces and foster community pride.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, risk assessments, and safe working systems to carry out tasks safely and efficiently.

Terms and Conditions

  • Salary is £27,254 per annum.
  • Full-time position requiring 37 hours per week, working Tuesday through Saturday.
  • This is a permanent contract.
