Job description

Role overview

Dorset Council is looking for a dependable, hands-on, and proactive person to become part of its Town Maintenance team. This position is centred in the Derby area and supports the upkeep of towns, parks, cemeteries, recreational areas, and other community facilities so they remain tidy and welcoming.

What you will do

Working alongside a supportive team, you will carry out a broad mix of maintenance tasks. These include caring for parks and gardens, general town maintenance, minor building or construction tasks, operating plant and equipment, and looking after Council-owned assets.

What the council is looking for

The preferred applicant will be practical, adaptable, and committed to producing quality work. You should be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather, take pride in public spaces, and show a strong focus on workplace health and safety. A current driver licence is required, along with any relevant industry licences or accreditations, or the willingness and ability to obtain them.

Experience in any of the following areas will be considered an advantage: maintenance of parks, gardens, reserves or open spaces; landscaping; construction or civil maintenance; and operating equipment such as mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, tractors, trucks, backhoes, or similar machinery.

What is offered

This is a permanent full-time role with an annual base salary of $71,893 plus 12% superannuation. The position also includes a fortnightly rostered day off, generous leave entitlements such as up to 10 days of compassionate leave and up to 10 weeks of paid parental leave, along with ongoing training and development opportunities. The role also offers the chance to contribute directly to the maintenance and improvement of the spaces the community uses every day.
