Role overview
Ecolab’s Global Food Retail division partners with food retailers to strengthen cleaning standards, food safety, and brand protection. In this field-based role, you will manage a defined set of customer accounts and visit retail food sites to assess practices, deliver training, and help reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
Key responsibilities
- Visit supermarkets and other food retail locations as part of a field service territory.
- Carry out recurring site reviews, typically on a monthly or quarterly basis.
- Evaluate food safety procedures, hygiene standards, employee and customer safety, and overall store cleanliness.
- Spot risk areas and recommend practical steps for improvement.
- Coach and train store teams on food safety standards and best practices.
- Provide easy-to-follow guidance that supports compliance and better operating habits.
- Develop trusted customer relationships and serve as a dependable advisor to store leadership.
- Share audit outcomes and suggest corrective actions and improvements.
- Partner with internal account teams to resolve customer concerns.
- Prepare visit reports and keep customer records up to date after each appointment.
- Organize your own schedule and plan efficient travel routes across the territory.
- Maintain and, where needed, install cleaning and sanitation equipment.
- Travel overnight when required, typically around 5 nights per month.

Experience and qualifications
You should bring at least 2 years of experience in food service, grocery, or hospitality, along with practical food safety experience. Supervisory experience is an advantage. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, as is the ability to work confidently with people at all levels, including senior customers. The role also calls for the ability to coach others, give constructive feedback with tact and diplomacy, and maintain strong working relationships.
About the team
Ecolab’s Food Retail Services team supports grocery stores, convenience stores, and supermarkets with audits, training, and specialist expertise. The division performs millions of food safety and compliance observations each year and works as an extension of customers’ own food safety teams to help protect brand reputation and support profitable growth.
Additional information
This position is based in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, and covers clients across the Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, and surrounding areas. Employment screening may be completed by Ecolab or an external third-party provider as part of the preferred candidate process.
