Job description

About Rainforest Builder

Rainforest Builder is a forest restoration company working across Africa with the goal of bringing one million hectares of degraded land back to natural tropical forest. The organisation brings together leading scientists and foresters in a single, integrated team focused on large-scale tropical forest restoration and long-term project delivery.

Its current work is centered on restoring some of the most degraded rainforest areas in the Upper Guinean Forest. The company already has two active projects and a growing pipeline of future expansion. These projects are extensive in scale, often exceeding 100,000 hectares, and are designed for long-term permanence over 71+ years. Rainforest Builder handles the full project lifecycle, including origination, carbon asset development, forestry operations, monitoring, and analytics, while working closely with local communities. Its 2,500-member team supports partners with transparency and confidence in the quality of its work.

Role Overview

The Technical Officer, Seed Processing will be responsible for leading and supporting activities linked to seed handling, storage, and monitoring. The position plays a key role in maintaining a dependable supply of high-quality seeds for restoration work, planting trials, and nursery operations, while also producing reliable data that supports seed management and dispatch decisions.

Seed Processing, Storage & Quality Control

  • Manage the cleaning, drying, labeling, and storage of seeds in line with established procedures.
  • Oversee the operation and upkeep of seed drying rooms and cold storage systems so that required temperature and humidity levels are consistently achieved.
  • Track seed moisture levels and storage conditions on an ongoing basis.
  • Carry out seed viability and germination testing, and record the findings.
  • Identify practical improvements to seed handling and storage processes.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely records to support batch-level tracking across the seed-to-seedling pipeline.
  • Perform routine seed stock counts and inventory reviews.
  • Keep seed databases organized, complete, and up to date.
  • Prepare regular updates on seed availability.
  • Support the development of internal reports and standard operating procedures.

Collaboration & Capacity Building

  • Coordinate closely with nursery teams and other research and development groups to match seed supply with project requirements.
  • Help train seed store staff and interns on seed processing methods and procedures.
