Role Summary

AECOM is looking for a seasoned and forward-thinking Technical Director to lead airport operations support for its Doha, Qatar project. This position is responsible for the full technical direction of systems and infrastructure that underpin essential airport functions. The role requires a balance of deep technical knowledge, strategic planning, and leadership to maintain safe, efficient, compliant, and high-performing airport systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement technical plans that support airport operational objectives and align with global aviation requirements.
  • Direct the setup, upkeep, and continuous improvement of airport technology platforms, including AODB, baggage handling, security, and passenger information systems.
  • Guide and develop a varied technical team, encouraging ongoing learning, strong performance, and a culture of improvement.
  • Oversee technical budgets, procurement activity, and supplier partnerships to improve value, reliability, and system output.
  • Make sure operations comply with ICAO rules, local aviation authority standards, and international safety expectations.
  • Review performance data and use insights to improve efficiency and reduce interruptions or downtime.
  • Work closely with airport teams across operations, security, and customer service to provide coordinated technical support.
  • Build and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements for all critical systems.
  • Carry out audits and technical reviews to spot risks, close vulnerabilities, and put preventive controls in place.
  • Track emerging airport and aviation technologies and recommend upgrades, improvements, and innovation opportunities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in airport operations, aviation technology, or a related infrastructure management area.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical leadership or management position responsible for teams and complex systems.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of airport operating platforms such as AODB, baggage systems, security systems, and maintenance management tools.
  • Solid understanding of aviation regulations, ICAO standards, and local compliance requirements in the Middle East.
  • Advanced capability in IT infrastructure, networks, cybersecurity, and systems integration.
  • Ability to diagnose complicated technical issues and apply practical, well-structured solutions.
  • Proven project management experience with large technical deployments and implementations.
  • Experience managing vendors and procurement activities effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills with a history of building and guiding high-performing technical teams.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to shape technology direction and organizational development.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Professional certifications in airport operations, IT management, or aviation technology are preferred.
  • Prior experience in international airport settings or multicultural environments is preferred.
