Job description

Role overview

This is a remote opportunity in Ireland for a Technical Author across multiple levels of seniority. The role sits within a fast-growing global technology setting and is focused on turning documentation into a strong engineering capability rather than treating it as a purely editorial task. Depending on the team, you may support product engineering, customer-facing technical work, or internal operations. Your work will help people understand complex software, improve the usability of technical content, and raise documentation quality across products and teams.

You will be part of an environment that values accuracy, curiosity, technical depth, and steady improvement. The role also includes working with open-source communities and helping improve how documentation is created, maintained, and scaled.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop, update, and refine technical documentation for software products, internal systems, or business processes based on the team you join.
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders so that written content reflects the real system behavior and user requirements.
  • Convert complex technical information into documentation that is organized, readable, and easy for varied audiences to use.
  • Help define and improve documentation standards, style conventions, and team-wide best practices.
  • Gather feedback from users and community members to make documentation more practical and relevant.
  • Encourage engineers and other cross-functional partners to contribute to documentation efforts.
  • Support documentation practices built around structured approaches such as Diátaxis.
  • Contribute to positioning documentation as an essential discipline in both product development and internal communication.

Requirements

  • Proven background in technical writing, software documentation, or a related engineering-facing communication role.
  • Some exposure to software development or a solid working understanding of engineering environments, tools, and workflows.
  • Ability to break down complex systems and explain them with clear, logical, and structured thinking.
  • Strong writing skills with careful attention to clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Experience working with engineers, product teams, or open-source communities.
  • Comfort using tools and environments such as Linux, Git, command line interfaces, or documentation systems like Sphinx and reStructuredText.
  • Genuine interest in technology and a willingness to learn unfamiliar domains quickly.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in distributed, fast-moving teams.
  • Additional advantage if you have contributed to open source, worked in UX writing, or held technical community leadership responsibilities.

Benefits

  • Remote-first setup with the chance to collaborate with colleagues across regions.
  • Competitive pay with annual performance-related salary review and bonuses.
  • Yearly learning and development allowance to support professional growth.
  • Periodic international in-person meetups and collaborative working sessions.
  • Flexible annual leave and broad parental leave support.
  • Employee assistance resources and wellbeing support.
  • Opportunity to influence open-source documentation practices at scale.
  • Travel support and perks for company-wide events and gatherings.
