Job description

About the Company

The Information is a premium journalism outlet focused on detailed reporting for senior decision-makers in technology and business. Launched in 2013 and based in San Francisco, it produces original reporting that helps shape major business and technology decisions. The publication serves a community of 700,000 active readers and is backed by strong finances, ample capital, and ambitious growth plans for its team and business.

About the Role

The Information is looking for an energetic and well-sourced reporter to cover the technology landscape across Asia. The beat sits at the intersection of Chinese tech advances, AI model development, semiconductors, robotics, and global competition between the U.S. and China. Tech companies from both countries are expanding AI infrastructure and pursuing customers in Southeast Asia, making the region increasingly important to the global industry.

This role calls for a reporter who can produce original, high-impact stories for an audience that wants not only the facts, but also the people, strategies, and implications behind them. You’ll be joining a newsroom known for deeply reported scoops and features that influence readers, competitors, and policymakers across the U.S. and Asia.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a broad and reliable network of contacts across technology companies, startup founders, investors, customers, and suppliers.
  • Consistently file a mix of short breaking-news items and reported feature stories, typically producing 2 to 3 stories each month.
  • Work closely with editors and reporters across the newsroom to strengthen story ideas, reporting, and execution.
  • Participate on TITV, the publication’s daily live video program, to talk through your reporting and other relevant developments in your beat.
  • Contribute to additional newsroom projects, including initiatives such as The Information 50.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of experience in a newsroom setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to break news and write engaging feature stories, preferably with a focus on Asia’s technology sector.
  • Comfort with close editorial collaboration to deliver exclusive, high-quality journalism.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must be based in Singapore or Hong Kong.
  • Applicants in Singapore must already have the legal right to live and work in the country.

Success in the First 6 Months

In the first month, you are expected to start publishing right away. By the six-month mark, you should be established on the beat, regularly producing widely read stories that draw attention from competitors, subscribers, and social media audiences.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a team of dedicated professionals working to shape the future of technology and business journalism. The environment is collaborative, inclusive, and designed to support innovative thinking. If you want to help serve a highly sophisticated readership and contribute to a brand known for exceptional journalism, this could be a strong fit.

Benefits

  • Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents
  • Medical coverage that includes fertility treatment support and $0 copays for in-office mental health appointments with in-network providers
  • Paid parental leave for new parents
  • Paid time off that grows with tenure
  • 401(k) plan or local equivalent pension scheme with employer matching contributions
  • Flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care costs
  • Fitness and wellness allowance
  • Monthly reimbursement for cell phone expenses
  • Commuter support
  • A respectful, supportive, diverse workplace with zero tolerance for harassment

Equal Opportunity

The employer states that hiring is based on merit and that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability. The company is committed to building an inclusive workplace for people of all backgrounds and ages.

Additional Information

This position is intended for a reporter who is curious about business and technology, self-driven, and able to work collaboratively with senior editors. The work will involve reporting on fast-moving developments in generative AI, China-U.S. competition, and the broader strategic implications for Asia and the world. The role also requires comfort with a newsroom culture that values original reporting, speed, and editorial rigor.
