Role Overview
The Target Analyst at SBTi Services is an integral member of the Target Validation Team, responsible for performing comprehensive and complex validations on corporate emission reduction targets. This role supports various cross-functional projects requiring technical precision, exceptional management of timelines, and proactive team support.
About the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
The SBTi is a global organization that facilitates companies in setting ambitious emissions reduction targets aligned with the latest climate science, aiming to slash emissions by half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. The initiative establishes and promotes best practices in science-based target setting and independently validates corporate targets to ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed evaluations of corporate emission reduction targets to confirm their alignment with the Paris Agreement and SBTi standards.
- Act as the primary liaison for companies during the review process, requesting clarification, answering technical inquiries, and providing validation updates.
- Analyze trends in emission reduction targets reported via partner organizations and SBTi.
- Maintain and update internal databases with relevant company and target data.
- Develop and present training materials to share best practices in science-based target setting with diverse stakeholders.
- Contribute to developing and revising criteria and protocols for assessing corporate targets against long-term temperature objectives.
- Provide broad technical, operational, and administrative support as required.
- Perform additional ad-hoc duties when necessary.
Required Experience and Skills
- Familiarity with key SBTi sectors such as power, cement, transport, and FLAG, and comfortable addressing alignment queries to SBTi standards.
- Independence and confidence conducting company calls with minimal oversight.
- Collaborative communication skills using tools like Slack and Asana.
- Capability to manage multiple deadlines, proactively collaborating with team members for solutions.
- Willingness to volunteer for projects while maintaining timely delivery of existing responsibilities.
- Engagement in team discussions and supporting peers with problem solving.
- Proficient in managing, editing, and enhancing extensive databases.
- Effective presentation skills for technical topics targeting diverse and high-profile audiences.
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual setting with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills, quick learning ability, and acute attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with advanced English proficiency, essential for a virtual work environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Fluency in additional languages such as Japanese, Korean, or Mandarin.
- Understanding of climate change scenarios, life cycle assessments, and emission factor databases.
- Knowledge of corporate greenhouse gas emission targets and proficiency with Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standards.
- Experience with data visualization and handling large datasets.
- Familiarity with database management systems.
- Previous work experience in global organizations or multicultural contexts.
- Experience collaborating with remote teams across multiple time zones.
