Job description
About Planet
Planet is a space and data company that builds and runs the world’s largest fleet of imaging satellites. Its cloud platform turns that satellite data into practical insights used by businesses, researchers, and humanitarian organizations around the world. The company brings together expertise in hardware, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering, and operates with a people-first culture focused on growth, community, and mission impact. Team members work remotely across the globe and from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and the Netherlands.
Role Overview
Planet is hiring a senior Talent Sourcer to strengthen pipeline development for its most challenging North American searches. This role partners with Talent Acquisition leaders across Space Systems, Software Engineering, Commercial, and Corporate teams to identify, engage, and move forward passive candidates who can help shape the company’s future. The position reports to the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition and requires someone who can work independently on highly complex searches, including senior engineering, executive, and niche technical roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage full-cycle candidate pipelines for Planet’s hardest-to-fill North American roles, especially within Space Systems engineering and Commercial/G&A leadership hiring.
- Work with Talent Acquisition Partners across all North American pods to understand quarterly hiring priorities and focus sourcing where it will have the greatest business impact.
- Develop strong market insight across satellite, aerospace, earth-observation, and related deep-tech talent pools, then turn that insight into target lists, competitor mapping, and outreach plans.
- Handle passive candidate engagement from start to finish, including research, outreach, screening, calibration, and a smooth handoff to the Talent Acquisition Partner.
- Lead market mapping and search-strategy discussions with senior hiring managers and executives, and challenge the brief when market conditions show the role is not calibrated correctly.
- Build long-term talent communities and referral networks for repeat priority skill sets to create a sourcing engine that improves over time.
- Help improve sourcing playbooks, tools, and AI-enabled workflows to raise sourcing quality across Planet.
- Operate independently on strategic and executive searches, escalating only when broader organizational alignment is needed.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of hands-on sourcing experience, with 3 or more years focused on technical engineering areas such as hardware, systems, embedded, machine learning, software, or similar disciplines.
- Proven ownership of complex senior and executive searches from market mapping through engagement, calibration, and conversion.
- Strong command of LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search, GitHub, X-ray sourcing, modern sourcing platforms such as Gem, hireEZ, and SeekOut, plus working knowledge of an ATS like Greenhouse.
- Ability to produce market-mapping deliverables that hiring leaders rely on when shaping search strategy.
- Experience sourcing across engineering, commercial, and corporate functions, with the flexibility to shift context quickly between roles.
- Comfort with sourcing metrics such as response rate, conversion rate, and pipeline speed, along with the judgment to pivot when a search needs a new angle.
- Confidence in working directly with senior managers and executives and offering well-reasoned pushback when the market does not support the brief.
- Self-directed approach to managing ambiguous, high-stakes searches with limited inbound demand while balancing multiple pods and partners.
- Ability to write outreach messages that connect with senior technical and commercial candidates.
Preferred Experience
- Background sourcing within space, aerospace, satellite, defense, geospatial, or adjacent deep-tech sectors.
- Experience supporting Director-level and above searches across both technical and commercial areas.
- Exposure to AI-assisted sourcing tools, automation workflows, or candidate intelligence platforms beyond a standard ATS.
- Familiarity with security-cleared talent or U.S. government or federal-adjacent hiring environments.
- Experience contributing to sourcing standards, playbooks, training content, or onboarding materials.
Benefits
Benefits are dependent on employment type and location, and are provided in accordance with applicable law or company policy.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Health Savings Account with company contribution
- Generous paid time off, plus holidays and company-wide days off
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave
- Wellness program and Employee Assistance Program
- Home office reimbursement
- Monthly phone and internet reimbursement
- Tuition reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning
- Equity
- Commuter benefits for employees near an office
- Paid time off for volunteering
Compensation
The expected base pay range for this full-time role in San Francisco is USD 128,400 to USD 160,500 at the start of employment. Final pay depends on relevant experience, skills, and location. The role may also qualify for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives, including bonus and equity.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is July 21, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT.
