Role overview
Mackay Regional Council is hiring a temporary full-time Systems and Digital Support Technician to start as soon as possible and continue until Sunday, 10 January 2027. This role sits within the Libraries team and focuses on improving how the community accesses information, resources, and digital services.
The libraries are positioned as modern, connected community hubs, and this position plays an important part in strengthening systems, improving digital experiences, and supporting innovation across library services.
What you will do
In this role, you will take ownership of library systems, digital platforms, and related processes so that access to services remains smooth and reliable for the public. The work combines technical system administration with customer support and service improvement.
The position is based at Gordon White Library, and travel within the region to support other libraries is likely.
- Administer, maintain, and improve the Library Management System and connected technologies.
- Assist with or lead projects involving library systems, hardware, and software.
- Review data and prepare reports that help guide service improvements.
- Spot opportunities to introduce innovation and strengthen continuous improvement.
- Support digital service delivery and help ensure technology is accessible to all users.
- Develop productive working relationships with internal staff, suppliers, and external partners.
- Provide customer-facing assistance, including technology help and support with resource enquiries.
About you
You will bring a mix of technical capability, library or IT knowledge, and strong people skills. The council is looking for someone who can manage systems well, work through problems effectively, and contribute to ongoing change and improvement.
- You must be able to complete a full pre-employment medical assessment, including immediate drug and alcohol screening.
- You should hold tertiary qualifications in Library & Information Studies, Information Technology, or a related discipline, along with relevant experience.
- You need solid experience using library systems or comparable technology platforms, preferably a Library Management System.
- You should be able to analyse data and turn it into useful reports.
- You will need strong project management and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities are essential.
- You should have experience supporting continuous improvement and change initiatives.
- A valid Working with Children Blue Card is required.
Desirable experience
- Experience managing library systems in a public library setting would be an advantage.
- Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is desirable.
Working conditions and employment details
This is a temporary full-time role. The pay rate is $53.00 per hour. The roster is a 9-day fortnight, with any 5 out of 7 days potentially applying. Local travel within the region may be required.
