Job description
Role Overview
Mackay Regional Council is seeking two Contracts Officers to join its Procurement team in Mackay, Queensland. This position focuses on helping Council achieve strong value-for-money outcomes through well-managed tendering and contract administration.
In this role, you will oversee tender and contract activities from beginning to end, offer practical advice to internal stakeholders, support compliance with procurement legislation and policy, and help reduce contractual risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate tender activities, including review, assessment, and the preparation of supporting records and documentation.
- Guide stakeholders on contract administration matters and procurement policy requirements.
- Assist with contract discussions and the preparation of statements of departures.
- Support price negotiations to help secure cost-effective outcomes for Council.
- Draft tender recommendations and related reports.
- Keep contract records accurate and ensure system data is maintained properly.
- Provide assistance, guidance, and training on contract management systems.
- Make sure all procurement actions comply with relevant policies and legislative obligations.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III in Business.
- Prior experience in a comparable role, with sound knowledge of tendering processes.
- Understanding of contract administration, contract management, and risk management.
- Strong negotiation skills, clear communication, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time well.
- Confident use of Microsoft Office tools, especially Word and Excel.
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Desirable Experience
- Formal qualifications in law, contracts, or a related field.
- Background in local government or construction procurement.
- Experience with finance or purchasing systems such as SAP or Finance One.
- Knowledge of local government procurement policies and procedures.
