About the Company
Opal is a manufacturer of everyday products used across multiple industries. Operating as part of the Nippon Paper Group, the business serves well-known customers in FMCG, retail, and fresh produce, with a strong focus on innovation, practical solutions, and sustainability.
Role Overview
This is a strategic, fast-moving opportunity for a Supply Chain & Logistics Manager to join Opal Fibre in Hastings, New Zealand. The role owns a complex supply chain and logistics network, with a strong emphasis on seasonal stock builds that support fresh produce customers.
Why This Role Stands Out
- You will have direct exposure to senior leadership and the position is intended to act as a progression route into national supply chain roles.
- The role sits within a vital regional hub, handling cross-country stock flows, a 23,000-pallet storage environment, and day-to-day engagement with major pack houses.
- It is well suited to someone who enjoys bringing structure to complexity, improving third-party logistics performance, using data to redesign workflows, and strengthening a regional logistics footprint.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage warehousing, local freight, linehaul transport, and container movements, while introducing consistent processes and firm control over aged stock.
- Hold logistics partners to account, monitor KPI performance, and resolve freight and invoicing issues directly.
- Use analytical tools and ordering systems to protect working capital and keep stock levels aligned with budgets.
- Work closely with sales, production planning, and paper mill supply chain teams, while maintaining strong relationships with key fresh produce customers.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environment, and Chain of Responsibility requirements, while mentoring and developing both direct and indirect team members.
Candidate Profile
The ideal person is analytical, resilient, and highly collaborative, with the confidence to influence across all levels of the business in a busy seasonal setting.
To succeed, you should bring hands-on experience in large-scale warehousing, freight operations, and seasonal inventory planning, preferably gained in manufacturing, packaging, or primary industries. You should also be comfortable entering less structured environments and establishing SOPs, performance measures, and operational stability. Strong vendor management skills are important, along with the ability to tackle issues, enforce contract terms, and support team development through change and wider site leadership initiatives.
Additional Information
Opal encourages applicants who are ready to take ownership of a demanding and influential role within a critical regional operation.
