What the role involves

• Create and execute procurement plans that support business growth, operational efficiency, and overall company goals.
• Develop strong supplier partnerships, track vendor performance, ensure policy and contract compliance, and negotiate favorable commercial terms.
• Lead cost-reduction efforts through negotiation, market intelligence, and smart purchasing decisions while protecting quality standards.
• Manage inventory levels by applying methods such as FIFO and ABC analysis, and maintain accurate stock records.
• Handle procurement compliance, identify supply risks, and prepare backup plans to reduce disruption in materials flow.
• Coordinate with Quality Control, Production, and Finance teams to align material requirements, budgets, and delivery priorities.
• Guide, coach, and support the procurement team while encouraging continuous improvement and strong performance.

Requirements and qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Professional certifications such as CPSM or CIPS are an added advantage.
• At least 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain functions, including 5+ years in a senior purchasing leadership role.
• Background in manufacturing or process engineering environments is preferred.
• Hands-on familiarity with Syspro ERP or comparable ERP platforms.
• Working knowledge of inventory tools such as JD Edwards or Microsoft Dynamics, along with strong MS Excel and data analysis capability.
• Exposure to electronic document management systems for organized and efficient documentation.
• Strong skills in negotiation, cost control, communication, leadership, and analytical decision-making.
• Ability to manage issues related to inward and outward movements, subcontracting, logistics, dispatch, excise, manpower handling, inventory control, and material/process understanding.
• Approach should be proactive, adaptable, organized, and customer-focused, with good managerial, IT, time-management, and team-management skills.
