Job description
Role overview
This opening is for a compassionate Supervised Family Visitation Worker in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. The organization is building its local team in advance of service launch, so successful candidates will be brought on now to help establish a supportive, child-focused program.
The position supports children and youth in foster care by making family visits possible in a safe and structured setting. Along with maintaining safety and observing interactions, the worker documents what happens during visits in detailed reports that may be used to assess reunification and may also be considered in court.
The employer is a long-established health and community care provider in Newfoundland and Labrador, with more than 25 years of operating history and a workforce of over 1,000 people involved in direct care services.
Key duties
The role involves supervising family visits, ensuring the environment remains secure, watching for relevant behaviors and conditions, and preparing thorough written reports after visits. These reports are an important part of the process used to evaluate family reunification.
Because visits are arranged around the schedules of children and families, shifts are short and may fall on days, evenings, or weekends. The minimum shift length is 3 hours, and there are no overnight or 24-hour shifts.
If travel is needed for a visit, transportation for the children will be organized by taxi and paid for by the program. Workers are also paid for the time spent writing reports.
Training and support
Training is provided to help prepare new hires for the responsibilities of the position, and on-call support is available throughout visitation hours.
Requirements
Applicants should have experience in a related role working with children and youth. Required documents include a Record of Conduct, a Vulnerable Sector Check, a First Aid Certificate, and a medical certificate confirming good health. The medical documentation must include a negative TB test and an up-to-date immunization record.
The position calls for knowledge of child development, family relationships, and social services, along with strong interpersonal and written communication skills, sound judgment, objectivity, and the ability to protect client confidentiality.
Compensation and employment terms
The pay rate is $20.30 per hour, in line with the collective agreement. This is a unionized role represented by the NL Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE).
Additional information
This is a part-time, onsite position in Stephenville, NL. The team is being hired before local services begin, as the organization is preparing for expansion into the area.
Visits are scheduled to match family availability, so flexibility is important.
