Job Overview and Responsibilities
The Storekeeper will be responsible for managing stock receipt, storage, and issue within the food service context, ensuring all stock handling complies with safety and quality standards. Key activities include receiving and inspecting deliveries for quantity and quality against delivery documents, accurately recording stock, and promptly reporting any discrepancies or damages.
Proper storage of goods following FIFO principles and adhering to food safety guidelines is essential. The role involves issuing stock to kitchens and service areas based on authorized requests, maintaining precise daily stock records, and assisting with routine stock counts to support inventory control and minimize losses.
The Storekeeper must ensure stores, refrigerators, and freezers are kept clean, organized, and compliant with hygiene and HACCP standards. Continuous monitoring and documentation of temperatures in cold storage, along with immediate reporting of any irregularities, are required. Correct labelling, packaging, and monitoring of expiry dates must be maintained to reduce waste and preserve stock quality.
Skills and Qualifications
- Foundation knowledge of stock control procedures, including receiving, issuing, rotation, and record-keeping.
- Competence in accurately completing stock sheets, delivery notes, and requisition forms.
- Basic numeracy skills and meticulous attention to detail in stock checks.
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and safe food storage practices, including HACCP awareness.
- Physical capability to safely lift and handle stock items.
- Dependability, honesty, and the capacity to follow instructions and workflows consistently.
- Teamwork orientation, with the ability to contribute positively to the work environment.
Possession of a valid driver's license is necessary. Preferred candidates will have 1 to 2 years of experience as a Storekeeper, Stock Controller, or in a closely related position. Experience within the catering, hospitality, or food service sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
