Job description
Role overview
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a Staff Nurse to join Ward 5 in Aylesbury, a Haematology inpatient area. The team offers a contemporary working setting, supportive colleagues, and the chance to help deliver high-quality care to patients. The role also comes with access to professional development and several study options.
Ward and specialty details
Ward 5 specialises in haematology care and also serves as the inpatient unit for Autologous Stem Cell Transplant patients. To administer SACT, the post holder will need to complete the relevant patient care module at Guys Cancer Academy. Additional accredited haematology and cancer care modules are available, including learning that can contribute toward degree or master's-level study. A Stem Cell Transplant module is also available.
Working pattern
The ward follows a two-shift system: 07:00-19:30 and 19:00-07:30. The post requires a rotating schedule from Monday through Sunday, and cross-site work with Clinical Nurse Specialists and other multidisciplinary team members across the Cancer Care and Haematology units and ward.
Key duties
The nurse in this post is expected to step into charge of the ward or department on a regular basis and provide professional and managerial leadership when the ward manager or deputy is unavailable. The role involves delivering all appropriate aspects of patient care to a consistently high nursing standard, in line with Trust policies.
The position also includes supervising both registered and unregistered staff, as well as teaching qualified staff, support staff, and students at basic and post-basic levels.
Development and employment notes
Performance will be reviewed annually, and goals will be set as part of that process. The job description may be updated if significant service changes occur.
