Job description
Role overview
This position focuses on reservoir engineering work for QatarEnergy’s operated offshore Idd El-Shargi field. The role is centered on improving field development strategies, studying reservoir and well performance, carrying out decline curve, pressure transient, and material balance analyses, and building reservoir surveillance and management programs. It also involves preparing integrated development plans for underdeveloped hydrocarbon resources and contributing as part of interdisciplinary study teams.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out advanced pressure transient analysis for horizontal wells, including deconvolution, multilayer reservoirs, and dual-porosity systems, even when data is noisy or incomplete.
- Build and refresh dynamic black-oil and compositional reservoir models to support field development planning.
- Complete the annual reserves review and prepare long-range production and injection forecasts for business planning and drilling or workover scheduling.
- Provide reservoir engineering input to short-term activities such as drill or replacement well projects, workover projects, and drilling/workover operations, as well as medium- and long-term work covering voidage management, field development, and asset value improvement.
- Identify target reservoir layers and determine well-to-reservoir contact for new, replacement, vertical, deviated, and horizontal drilling projects in heterogeneous multilayer reservoirs.
- Support well proposals and drilling prognoses, and prepare post-drill reservoir engineering reports that combine engineering interpretation with geological and petrophysical findings.
- Take part in preparing detailed integrated development plans for undeveloped hydrocarbon resources.
- Contribute reservoir engineering inputs to the annual reviews for the fields.
- Recommend reservoir engineering data acquisition activities and maintain reservoir databases, including real-time data connections.
- Oversee contractor compliance related to reservoir engineering data acquisition work.
- Coach, train, and develop Qatari staff through on-the-job guidance.
Experience and technical requirements
- At least 20 years of experience in reservoir engineering.
- Strong command of horizontal well pressure transient interpretation, including deconvolution, multilayer reservoirs, and dual-porosity or dual-permeability systems.
- Proven ability to build numerical reservoir simulation models, initialize models, match history, and run sensitivity and predictive cases using black-oil and compositional approaches.
- Solid expertise in transient well test planning and interpretation, material balance modeling, and performance forecasting.
- Experience working in mature carbonate reservoirs is required.
- Strong practical knowledge of PVT and special core analysis (SCAL) data interpretation.
- Familiarity with reserves assessment, classification, and booking under SPE PRMS or SEC standards is required.
- Ability to communicate clearly with peers, junior staff, field teams, and management.
- Strong teamwork capability; prior work in multicultural and integrated environments is an advantage.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Experience in mature oil and gas fields is required.
- Useful additional experience includes reservoir fluid sampling, fluid property modeling, routine core analysis, and special core analysis.
- Exposure to uncertainty analysis and risk assessment or risk management is desirable.
Education and software knowledge
- Minimum qualification: BSc in Engineering, preferably Petroleum Engineering, or Applied Sciences.
- An advanced degree in Engineering, preferably Petroleum Engineering, or Applied Sciences is preferred.
- Experience with Kappa-Saphir for well test interpretation.
- Experience with Eclipse 100/300 for simulation.
- Experience with Petrel RE.
- Experience with PVTi and PVTSim for fluid property modeling.
- Experience with MBAL for material balance.
- Experience with OFM for reservoir surveillance.
- Experience with @Risk or Crystal Ball.
