Job description
Position Summary
This role supports safe and orderly operations at a landfill, transfer station, or recycling facility by guiding vehicle drivers to the correct disposal areas according to the site fill plan and by making sure posted safety rules are followed. It also includes checking incoming loads for materials that are not allowed and removing prohibited items before disposal. When needed, the position can also take on general labor tasks such as cleaning the site, yard work, and basic building upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in line with company safety procedures at all times, including approaching vehicles safely, confirming drivers understand hand signals through eye contact, and wearing required protective gear throughout the shift.
- Apply both posted and site-specific safety expectations consistently.
- Guide vehicles to the correct area of the facility based on the fill plan, including directing trucks safely during poor weather.
- Review incoming loads for items that cannot be accepted and remove unwanted materials such as tires, batteries, and other restricted waste before disposal.
- Coordinate with equipment operators about special waste or any load that needs extra handling.
- Carry out end-of-day closing tasks according to established procedures.
- Complete labor support work as needed, including cleaning, yard maintenance, and minor building maintenance.
- Handle additional work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience working around heavy machinery.
- Ability to keep to the assigned schedule and respond effectively as issues come up.
- Willingness to follow company policies and rules, support safety expectations, and act with honesty and reliability.
- Strong work ethic with pride in performance and a focus on meeting goals.
Compensation and Benefits
The role is listed at $21 per hour in USD, with weekly paychecks and competitive benefits. The posted pay range is $17.13 to $20.52, reflecting minimum wage requirements across multiple jurisdictions; the actual pay depends on the location where the employee is hired.
