Job description
Role overview
This FBI special agent role is designed for professionals with an accounting or finance background who want to apply their expertise in a law enforcement setting. The position has been exempted from the federal civilian hiring freeze.
Rather than simply using your finance skills in a conventional setting, you will expand them through investigative work, specialized training, and hands-on exposure to cases involving national security and public safety. The work is intended to strengthen your analytical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration skills while you contribute to efforts against cyber threats, terrorism, fraud, and other emerging risks.
You will also gain access to advanced tools, real-world investigative experience, and a supportive environment focused on long-term professional development and leadership growth.
How to apply
To submit your interest, follow the application steps provided by the FBIJobs careers portal. Begin by selecting the Apply option, then start the process by signing in or creating an account. Complete each section carefully and ensure every required document is attached before submitting.
- A resume that clearly lists relevant work history, including start and end dates. The resume must be no longer than two pages.
- Supporting documents as applicable.
- College transcripts, if your qualifications are based on education or if a degree is required for eligibility.
- Veterans should include DD 214; disabled veterans should submit DD 214, SF-15, and a VA letter dated 1991 or later.
Salary
The pay range for this role is $103,236 to $133,200. Compensation is based on base pay, locality pay, and availability pay.
Major duties
- Lead and carry out investigations involving suspected violations of federal law, cyber activity, and public safety matters.
- Use sound judgment, initiative, and flexibility to respond to investigative needs.
- Build and maintain working relationships with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement partners.
- Keep yourself physically prepared to meet the demands of law enforcement service.
Key requirements
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- You must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
- You must be willing to travel when required.
- You must satisfy the FBI’s employment eligibility standards.
Education
A bachelor’s degree or higher is required, preferably in accounting or a closely related discipline such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting, from a U.S.-accredited college or university. All degrees must be confirmed through official college transcripts.
Equal opportunity
The FBI is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates will be considered without discrimination based on protected characteristics or other nonmerit factors, unless a legal exception applies.
