Job description
About Sonder
Sonder is focused on helping people feel safe, supported, and able to perform at their best, wherever they are. The company combines technology with human expertise to provide workplace health, safety, and wellbeing support. Its mobile platform connects members to 24/7 help from safety, medical, and mental health specialists, and, when needed, to on-the-ground support for urgent situations.
Using live insights, Sonder also helps organisations take proactive action to improve health and safety outcomes while contributing to stronger business results.
Why this opportunity stands out
Sonder was established in 2017 and has grown quickly across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. It is backed by Australia’s leading venture capital firms, Seek and Blackbird, and is expanding its work with corporations, educational institutions, and government bodies.
Impact and scale
- More than 1,000,000 members across several countries
- Over 200 team members, supported by a broad network of responders on the ground
About the role
The core of this position is Sonder’s Response Network, where responders deliver in-person assistance to members in coordination with the Support Centre. Applicants from the identified industries, including current and former workers, may apply. The role offers flexibility and on-call capacity, making it suitable for people looking to balance work and personal commitments.
This position is ideally based in or near Wellington, New Zealand. Responders are part of the network on a casual basis and work a flexible 24-hour on-call roster. It is also an opportunity to help establish and grow the New Zealand network from the ground up. You will be able to choose your availability and receive compensation for both being on call and attending incidents.
Key duties
When needed, you may also support the Response Network Manager with stakeholder engagement, partnership building, training, operational improvements, and emergency or non-emergency responses that support the local responder network.
Who should apply
Sonder is looking for experienced people from the military, law enforcement, mental health, or emergency services sectors who are committed to helping others. The ideal candidate can assess critical situations, decide on the right next steps, and show strong empathy throughout.
Additional requirements
Applicants should have recent or current experience in Australia in emergency services, military, or security-related work, along with a well-established local network of contacts. Strong self-awareness, motivation, and self-management are important, as is the ability to prioritise tasks, respond quickly to key issues, and remain sensitive to others while doing so. Candidates must also be comfortable working a flexible on-call roster.
Clearances and checks
Because of the nature of the work, all employees must complete a National Police Check and a WWCC. If you already hold these clearances, you should mention that in your application.
