Role overview

This role is for a Software Test Engineer responsible for validating web and mobile applications, checking functionality against requirements, and helping ensure releases meet quality expectations before they go live.

Key responsibilities

  • Review project needs, business rules, and functional documents to understand what must be tested.
  • Create and run test cases, test scenarios, and test plans from the requirements.
  • Carry out manual testing for both web and mobile applications.
  • Log, monitor, and manage defects using bug-tracking platforms such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Re-check fixes and perform regression testing after updates are made.
  • Support smoke, sanity, functional, regression, and user acceptance testing activities.
  • Check user interfaces, workflows, forms, reports, and overall business processes for correctness.
  • Perform compatibility testing across different browsers and devices.
  • Test REST APIs using tools like Postman.
  • Use SQL queries to verify data in the database whenever needed.
  • Work closely with developers, UI/UX designers, and business analysts to close issues.
  • Take part in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives in an Agile setup.
  • Keep testing documents, execution records, and defect reports updated.
  • Help confirm that applications are ready and quality-approved before production release.
  • Assist in preparing release verification checklists.

Candidate profile

  • Sound understanding of STLC and SDLC processes.
  • Awareness of testing approaches and the defect lifecycle.
  • Basic SQL knowledge for checking database records.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum-based development.
  • Experience using defect-tracking tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Basic exposure to API testing with Postman.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear written and spoken communication skills.
  • Careful attention to detail and a strong quality mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in manual testing.
  • Exposure to automation testing is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Git or similar version control tools is an added plus.
