Job description
About Second Harvest
Second Harvest is recognized as Canada's leading food rescue organization, specializing in the recovery and redistribution of perishable food surpluses to non-profits nationwide. Anchored in the values of Innovation, Impact, and Integrity, the organization champions a mission of eliminating waste and hunger. Their strategies align closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, driving meaningful change from local to global scales.
Position Overview
We are looking for a strategic and creative Social Media Manager to spearhead Second Harvest's social media outreach. In this role, you will elevate awareness and engagement among business sectors including food industry partners and donors, along with the broader public. Collaborating with the Marketing & Communications team, you will craft and execute platform-specific social media strategies that amplify our mission, foster community growth, and inspire proactive involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive annual social media content strategy and calendar aligned with organizational priorities, fundraising initiatives, and marketing campaigns.
- Oversee all social media channels—Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube—to ensure content supports goals and targets appropriate audiences.
- Manage daily social media operations including content creation, scheduling, publishing, optimization, and community engagement for both organic and paid posts.
- Create compelling content — including copywriting, photography, graphics, and short-form videos — that effectively represents the brand and mission.
- Represent Second Harvest authentically on camera to engage and expand the online community.
- Plan and organize photo and video shoots involving staff, volunteers, partners, and community members, traveling regularly to Etobicoke headquarters and events as needed.
- Engage proactively with the online community through social listening and timely interactions.
- Establish and nurture partnerships with influencers, content creators, and ambassadors to boost campaign reach and brand visibility.
- Analyze social media analytics and produce periodic reports with insights to refine strategy and enhance performance.
- Stay up-to-date with evolving social media trends, platform updates, and emerging best practices; introduce innovative digital strategies accordingly.
- Support additional digital marketing initiatives and organizational projects as required.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum two years of professional social media management experience within an agency, brand, or organization.
- Demonstrated success in designing and executing social media strategies, content calendars, and integrated campaigns.
- Proficiency managing paid campaigns via Meta Business Suite and optimizing results.
- Strong skills in content creation, including writing, photography, and producing short-form videos for social platforms.
- Highly skilled with tools such as social media management platforms, Canva, video editing software, and content management systems.
- Comfortable interpreting social media metrics to translate data into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management strengths, capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborative experience with influencers and brand ambassadors is advantageous.
- Ability to work hybrid with approximately 50% of the time onsite, plus flexible working hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and travel.
- Bilingual abilities in English and French are a plus but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range of $67,000 to $70,000 supplemented with comprehensive benefits.
- Group insurance coverage including health, dental, life, AD&D, and long-term disability.
- Employer contributions to Defined Benefit Pension Plan (3%) and Group Retirement Savings Plan (up to 4%).
- Parental leave top-up access.
- Four weeks of vacation annually plus one additional day per year of service (capped at 30 days).
- Paid sick leave (10 days) and personal days (3 days).
- Summer half-days to extend long weekends and closure during winter holidays.
- Employee and Family Assistance Program available.
- Opportunities for professional development within a purpose-driven environment.
- Flexible work hours supporting work-life balance.
Equity, Diversity, and Accessibility
Second Harvest is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourages applicants from equity-deserving groups including racialized individuals, Indigenous peoples, women, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ2S+ community members.
