Role Overview and Responsibilities
Seeking a versatile Social Media Manager who can create a wide range of engaging content including videos, graphics, memes, and written posts. This role requires quick adaptation to trending online topics to make Octopus Energy a relatable and dynamic brand on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, X, and YouTube. The successful candidate will ideate, pitch, and execute fresh content formats without relying on long-term plans, engaging in real-time internet culture. Collaboration with the Community Management team and occasional direct involvement in customer support are also integral to the position. Data-driven evaluation of social media campaigns to optimize impact is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Create diverse content ranging from reactive TikToks to educational mini-documentaries on energy topics.
- Rapidly identify and produce content based on internet trends and viral moments.
- Continuously propose new creative ideas and social media formats.
- Monitor social channels for emerging trends, brand mentions, and timely engagement opportunities.
- Assist with community support alongside the Community Management team, including participation in shift rotations.
- Maintain flexibility by prioritizing current, relevant content over fixed calendars.
- Analyze social media performance metrics to refine and improve strategies.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in content creation for brand social media channels, either agency or in-house.
- Proficiency in video production and editing, with familiarity in Adobe Creative Suite considered advantageous.
- Experience using social listening tools such as Brandwatch.
- Strong graphic design abilities to produce memes, Stories, thumbnails, and related assets.
- A proactive and execution-oriented approach with initiative to pitch and carry out ideas.
- Active user of social media platforms with a deep appreciation and understanding of internet culture and viral content dynamics.
- Empathetic with insights into audience behaviors and content sharing motivations.
- Adaptable work style with eagerness to engage in various tasks (T-shaped skillset).
- Passion for contributing to environmentally sustainable initiatives.
Additional Information and Working Conditions
This predominantly office-based role is located at Octopus Energy's London headquarters near Oxford Circus. In the initial six months, attendance is expected four days per week, then reducing to a minimum of three days thereafter. The company fosters a flexible work environment without strict adherence to a 9-to-5 schedule, recognizing that social media activity extends beyond typical office hours.
