Role overview

The Marketing team is looking for a Social Media Manager to own the social strategy, channel identity, and always-on publishing for the MYER brand. Reporting to the Senior Content Manager, you will lead a small specialist team and help deliver a strong social presence across Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, and new/emerging platforms.

This position acts as the lead for platform strategy and publishing for MYER’s social accounts. The focus is on turning editorial direction and campaign briefs into highly engaging, platform-specific content that grows audience, increases engagement, and encourages action.

Key responsibilities

  • Set and oversee MYER’s social strategy across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, and emerging platforms, including channel purpose, voice, and content approach.
  • Create a clear and distinctive identity for MYER on social media so the brand presence aligns with its positioning and connects with the target audience.
  • Keep up with platform updates, algorithm shifts, new tools, and rising channels, and use those insights to refine the social approach.
  • Develop informed recommendations on new and emerging platforms for the Senior Content Manager and Head of Content & Production.
  • Manage the social content calendar in line with the editorial plan, brand campaigns, category focus, and important cultural and retail moments.
  • Oversee scheduling and publishing for all MYER social content, making sure assets are delivered on time, meet platform requirements, and meet quality expectations.
  • Coordinate closely with the Traffic Manager so briefs are entered into the production workflow with enough lead time for strong creative output.
  • Work with external agency partners and internal creative/content teams to embed social-first content creation into the production process from briefing through to final delivery.
  • Direct social shoots, video, and motion work, ensuring creative is planned for social platforms from the beginning rather than repurposed later.
  • Drive use of native social formats such as Reels, TikTok, Stories, and YouTube Shorts so content feels built for each platform.
  • Set and uphold community management standards across MYER’s social channels, ensuring responses and engagement remain timely and on-brand.
  • Grow MYER’s social following through consistent content quality and meaningful community interaction that builds loyalty and advocacy.
  • Own the reporting framework for MYER social channels, measuring reach, engagement, follower growth, impressions, link clicks, and conversion outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports and insights for the Senior Content Manager, highlighting performance trends and practical actions for improvement.
  • Track competitor activity and industry benchmarks to keep MYER’s social performance aligned with leading standards.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the social team to create a strong, high-performing, platform-savvy culture.

About you

You should bring 5 to 7+ years of professional social media experience for consumer brands, including at least 1 to 2 years in a management or lead role. You will need proven ownership of end-to-end social strategy, platform management, and always-on publishing for a brand with a large audience.

Strong expertise across Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube is essential, along with genuine interest in emerging platforms and new content formats. You should also have a solid background in social content planning, editorial thinking, copywriting, and coordinating campaign extensions across several channels at once.

Experience leading a small team is important, including the ability to coach, guide, and direct social specialists and coordinators. Prior work in a content or publishing environment, with familiarity in production workflows and brief management, will be highly valued.

You should also be comfortable briefing and directing social-first content shoots and creative development alongside production and creative partners. Hands-on experience with scheduling and analytics tools such as Sprout Social, Dash Hudson, Later, or similar platforms is expected, as well as strong knowledge of Meta Business Manager, TikTok Ads Manager, and native analytics tools.

Experience in social listening, community management, and crisis response on social channels is also important. A strong understanding of the Australian retail, fashion, and lifestyle landscape would be an advantage.
