Job description
Role overview
MYER is looking for a Designer to join its Childrenswear team and play a key part in delivering the product direction for Myer Exclusive Brands. In this role, you will shape the design direction for Tilii, a fashion-focused girlswear label for ages 8 to 16. The position offers a chance to contribute within the Childrenswear team, apply your design background to a Myer Exclusive Brand, and work in a hybrid arrangement across the Docklands office and home.
Please include a low-resolution portfolio of your work with your application, as this is required to be considered for the role.
What you'll do
- Take product ideas from initial concept through to production, with a strong focus on continuously improving the product offer.
- Research trends using a commercial mindset and keeping the end customer in mind.
- Translate the brand vision into original artwork using CAD and illustration, and produce accurate design packs with specifications.
- Partner with the buying team to build products that reflect the DNA of the Myer Exclusive Brands.
- Develop the brand direction through mood boards, colour narratives, and print research that stay true to the brand identity.
- Create a recognisable design handwriting for the brand and keep refining it over time.
- Design new styles to strengthen the range, including selecting suitable fabrics and trims.
- Prepare design packs for vendors and sourcing partners so they can develop seasonal styles correctly.
- Maintain range boards, flow boards, and visual materials for range review meetings.
- Use graphic design capability where needed and prepare production-ready technical details for print artwork, including placement, size, colour, and printing method.
- Work with buyers to improve product through sourcing opportunities and help evolve the brand through better qualities, sampling, and pricing.
- Handle administrative tasks connected to range boards, flow boards, and updated visuals for reviews.
What we're looking for
- A tertiary qualification in design, or equivalent industry experience relevant to the role.
- At least 3 years of experience in design, product development, or a comparable retail setting.
- Strong knowledge of the market, customer groups, current trends, and competitor activity.
- Ability to interpret global trends and adapt them for the Australian market in a clear and effective way.
- Solid understanding of garment construction, finishing techniques, fabric properties, washes, treatments, and weights.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Commercial awareness with understanding of retail, financial, and business drivers.
- Experience in a medium-sized retail business would be an advantage.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving team alongside buying, QA, and sourcing colleagues.
- Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities.
