Role overview
Stage 3 Separation is hiring an entry-level Shop Technician in Calgary, Alberta. This hands-on role focuses on putting equipment together, taking it apart, and rebuilding general equipment used in solids control. The technician will use a range of hand and power tools, along with measuring and inspection equipment such as micrometers and calipers, to check equipment condition and support shop operations.
Work schedule
The position reports to the Shop Manager. Standard working hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime may be available, and occasional weekend or holiday work may be required.
Key duties
- Build and prepare equipment so it is ready for installation and service.
- Support the Shop Manager with wrapping, packing, loading, and unloading deliveries.
- Use a hot-water pressure washer to clean equipment when needed.
- Assist with shop and facility tasks such as moving materials, boxing items, cleaning, and removing waste.
- Help team members with equipment installation, servicing, and cleaning work.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Load and unload equipment on trailers for shipment to job sites.
- Install and confirm required Stage 3 Separation decals before equipment is shipped.
- Request the tools, supplies, and fixtures needed to complete assigned work.
- Be prepared to work at other locations when needed.
Skills and abilities
The role requires confidence with hand tools, inspection instruments, and industrial shop equipment. The technician should be able to work accurately, think through problems, follow technical instructions, and manage physically demanding tasks.
Physical demands
This job involves lifting up to 22.68 kg (50 lbs) and may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, crouching, twisting, grasping, frequent hand and finger movement, talking, hearing, good visual focus, and sustained physical and cardiovascular effort.
Education and experience
A high school diploma is required. Being 18 years of age or older is also required. A two-year technical diploma or an associate degree is preferred. Previous warehouse experience is an advantage, and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is mandatory. Reliable transportation to and from work is also required.
Equipment and technical work
The technician may need to diagnose, take apart, repair, and rebuild equipment such as pumps. The role also includes reading blueprints and schematic drawings to determine assembly and disassembly steps, and using manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools. Precision work within tight tolerances is important. Tools needed for the job will be supplied.
