Stage 3 Separation provides specialized solids control equipment for mud systems, helping clients manage solids efficiently, lower operating costs, and achieve limited or zero-discharge solutions when needed. Role overview
As the Solids Control Field Leader for Canada, you will serve as the primary on-site authority for solids control field activity. You will set the standard for safe, efficient, high-performing work for both the company and the client, while supervising technicians and contractors and ensuring strong compliance with HSE requirements, company procedures, and site rules.
This position reports to the Area Manager and requires leadership that goes beyond the immediate worksite, including mentoring teams, maintaining accountability, and supporting consistent operational performance across assignments.
Key duties
- Direct and develop solids control field teams through active supervision, coaching, training, and performance oversight.
- Manage day and night operations to keep work safe, productive, and dependable.
- Work closely with other Field Leaders, Technicians, and Trainees to maintain smooth service delivery.
- Take responsibility for all solids control activity in the designated work area and ensure it is fully prepared for operations.
- Support the Area Manager with meaningful updates, observations, and leadership input.
Operational expectations
- Be available for rotation schedules of 14 days on/7 days off or 20 days on/11 days off, depending on the basin.
- Work 12-hour shifts, including overtime when required.
- Supervise crews of up to 10 technicians working days, nights, and potentially swing shifts.
- Travel domestically to remote job locations in a company vehicle throughout the United States.
- Be assigned to one site or multiple sites based on business needs.
- May need to sit a tower on an active job site.
- Carry out standard rig-up and rig-down processes while mentoring technicians at all levels.
- Oversee technicians operating and maintaining equipment such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps.
- Apply advanced knowledge of environmental processes and Environmental Services work, including construction and utilities.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues using knowledge of current, voltage, circuits, and power.
- Oversee solids control services including air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water, fluid transfers, target low-gravity solids, cuttings drying, and invert recovery.
- Understand drilling fluid properties in depth, including mud weight, funnel viscosity, and retort analysis, and carry out drilling fluid testing as needed.
- Monitor and, when needed, perform routine maintenance and routine electrical service on equipment.
- Coach technicians on moving cuttings from pits to trailers using heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Complete the mentor certification program and handle a range of personality situations appropriately.
- Conduct site audits and review daily PJRA/JSA documents, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists.
- Manage PPE/FR compliance for personnel on site and model all safety requirements.
- Pick up and deliver equipment to job sites when needed.
- Make grocery runs for or with technicians as required.
- Keep the worksite and employee housing clean and organized.
- Work in the shop on crossover days or whenever directed.
- Send weekly summaries to Area Managers covering staff activity and concerns.

Education, credentials, and experience
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- An associate degree or technical diploma in Technology, Electronics, Mechanics, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous forklift, excavator, skid steer, or wheel loader experience or certification is required; refresher training will be provided before work begins.
- Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, are required.
- A valid driver’s license, valid insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required for insurance purposes.
- Company vehicle use must follow the vehicle policy and be maintained professionally.
- To qualify as a Field Leader, candidates must pass a performance evaluation and have at least 36 months of verifiable solids control experience.
- Minimum 3 years of solids control field operations experience is required.
- More than 1 year of experience supervising and directing field staff is required.
- Hands-on rig-up and rig-down supervision experience is required.
- Proven ability to build a safe, productive field culture is required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels and with customers is required.
- Experience reviewing technician performance and safety records is required.
