Role Overview
The shift utility team member provides general support to line positions and works under daily supervision. This role is scheduled on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift with a 4 on / 4 off rotation.
Key Duties
- Help keep housekeeping standards in the assigned areas of the plant, as directed by the shift supervisor.
- Clean the sawline area at least twice during each shift.
- Maintain housekeeping in the press pit during night shift operations.
- Support work in regrading, the paint booth, the strapper, and the sawline as assigned.
- Operate mobile equipment, power tools, and hand tools to handle waste and recover usable material, including bark for the bark burner and processed wood from the dryer area.
- Check equipment each day to support safe and uninterrupted operation.
- Provide break relief for the sawline, strapper, and forklift operator when needed.
- Learn additional jobs across the mill to help cover operational needs.
- Assist with tasks that reduce unplanned downtime, such as clearing airlocks and cleaning the woodburner.
- Carry out basic or light preventive maintenance tasks.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations in every task.
Requirements
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Familiarity with line position duties and how they function.
- Understanding of general plant cleanup and utility work.
- Ability to read and follow safety rules and regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- At least 3 months of relevant experience is required.
- An equivalent mix of education and experience that shows the ability to perform the job may also be accepted.
Work Environment
This position is based in a plant setting with exposure to sawdust, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and other weather or site-related conditions.
