Job description
About Watercare
Watercare Services Limited is investing heavily in the future of Auckland’s water network, with a $14 billion programme planned across the next 10 years to help the city grow in a climate-resilient way. Spread over that period, this represents an average investment of $3.8 million each day.
The role is based in Māngere and sits within a tight-knit Drainage Team. It offers a practical, varied position where your experience will directly support essential drainage services and make a meaningful impact day to day.
What the role involves
You will work on a mix of independent tasks and team-based jobs, handling both reactive and planned drainage work. The position includes field-based service work, maintenance, investigation, and community-facing responsibilities.
- Clear and flush blocked pipes using high-pressure jetting and vacuum loading equipment.
- Perform scheduled and urgent maintenance on pump stations.
- Assist with civil works, pipe repairs, and manhole replacements.
- Use CCTV tools to inspect drainage assets and identify faults.
- Respond to urgent call-outs and support the community through timely service.
In addition to the technical work, you will represent the organisation in the community and build positive relationships with customers and members of the public through professional communication and conduct.
About you
The ideal person takes pride in doing quality work, values safety, and works well as part of a team. You should be dependable, flexible, and comfortable in a role where the tasks can change from day to day.
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence, preferably Class 2.
- Willingness to join a standby roster, with team support available.
- Background in utilities, drainage, or a similar hands-on environment; transferable experience will also be considered.
- Confidence using hand tools and working outdoors in practical settings.
- A strong sense of accountability and reliability.
- A clear commitment to health and safety for yourself, your colleagues, and the public.
Strong communication skills are essential, along with an interest in dealing with people and delivering excellent service.
What’s on offer
You will receive a competitive salary along with a staff benefits package that includes training and development, life and income protection insurance, generous parental leave, and employee discounts with a range of major retailers.
