Job description
Overview
The Service Worker I is an essential part of the healthcare team at a busy rural hospital, supporting various patient care activities. The role primarily involves moving patients, equipment, and medical items safely across different sections of the hospital site to ensure smooth operation of care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients (clients/residents) and necessary equipment between patient care areas on the hospital premises.
- Distribute and restock hospital supplies across multiple units to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Maintain cleanliness of medical equipment and patient care environments as per directives.
- Transport laboratory specimens, blood, blood products, and patient charts safely within the hospital.
- Communicate any concerns about supplies or safety issues promptly to Unit Managers or Assistant Head Nurses.
- Carry out other assigned duties as required to support hospital operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12 education or its equivalent.
- Possession of a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the Heart and Stroke AED Level C (Healthcare Provider), with proof of certification.
- Minimum one year of experience in a porter or attendant role.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, to ensure effective communication.
- Capability to handle physical job requirements, including pushing stretchers, carts, wheelchairs, as well as bending and reaching.
- Completion of Medical Terminology training is required.

- Shift Details: 7.75 hour shifts, 12 weeks length, 60 shifts per cycle, including days, evenings, and weekends with days off on a rotational basis
- Salary Range: $22.33 to $24.38 per hour
