Job Summary
This entry-level position focuses on supporting maintenance and production operations at our Demopolis, AL plant. The role involves various hands-on tasks essential to maintaining efficiency and safety in daily plant functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and promptly reporting any equipment or safety concerns.
- Perform physical labor such as trenching, digging, backfilling, shoveling, sweeping, and general cleanup duties.
- Assist with facility upkeep including maintenance tasks, construction of concrete forms, painting, and housekeeping activities.
- Help with machinery upkeep by lubricating and oiling equipment and supporting maintenance teams during regular and emergency work.
- Participate actively in meetings, training sessions, and help with plant outages or cross-functional support as needed.
- Complete other tasks assigned by management to ensure smooth plant operations.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum educational qualification: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience required: Either four years of general plant experience or six years of cement plant experience if hired externally.
- Skills include proficiency with control systems and computer applications, strong communication abilities, mechanical aptitude with the capability to read diagrams, and familiarity with production-related mathematics.
- Exhibit sound judgment and a proactive approach towards safety.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Commitment to safety standards, including consistent use of necessary PPE.
- The role involves both indoor and outdoor work environments exposed to challenging conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, noise, and dust.
- Physical demands include occasional heavy lifting up to 100 pounds, frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, continual lifting of 20 pounds, climbing, standing, shoveling, walking, pushing, and pulling.
- The position requires clear verbal communication via phone and radio, and the ability to perceive commands and alarms in a noisy setting.
- Must successfully complete a physical exam comprising a back x-ray, vision and hearing tests, functional capability evaluation, respiratory fit test, and drug/alcohol screening.
- Work hours are variable, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs dictate.
- Onsite presence at the assigned location is mandatory; remote work is not an option.
