Job description
About SafeNow
SafeNow is a Munich-based startup with a mission to make safety accessible to everyone, free of charge. The team is building an app that gives people immediate access to locally relevant helpers, whether that means friends, family members, or professional support.
The company is a small but ambitious group of 53 people from 9 nationalities. It is looking for someone who enjoys tackling new challenges in a fast-moving startup setting and wants to contribute to a shared goal: making the world safer for people and places we care about.
This role is focused on user research and acts as a link between human behavior and an intuitive, innovative product experience.
What you will do
- Take full ownership of research work from start to finish, including exploratory studies and usability testing, and choose the most effective approach for the question at hand such as interviews, diary studies, or surveys.
- Turn raw findings and observations into clear, actionable insights that help product and design teams make decisions and shape product direction.
- Partner closely with the product team to test hypotheses and influence the roadmap based on real user needs, making sure the team solves genuine problems rather than simply shipping features.
- Set a strong standard for research practice across the team and advise colleagues on how to run smaller tests with a solid, evidence-based approach.
- Conduct research in real-world environments such as stations, stadiums, and events, validating prototypes under practical conditions and capturing context-specific safety insights.
What we are looking for
- At least 5 years of professional experience in user research for digital products, ideally in a domain that demands high empathy and trust, such as health tech, safety, or fintech.
- Strong command of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with good judgment on when to use surveys and when deeper interviews are the better fit.
- Sharp analytical ability to identify complex behavior patterns and translate them into simple frameworks such as personas, jobs-to-be-done, and journey maps without losing nuance.
- A pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset suited to startup pace, with the ability to produce lean insights that are fast enough for agile product cycles and still robust enough for decisions.
- Excellent communication skills in both German and English, plus the ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, and engineering in a diverse team.
Benefits
- Work with a clear sense of purpose by contributing to a product that helps make the world safer.
- Receive VSOP equity in a fast-growing startup and share directly in the company’s success.
- Enjoy a culture built on teamwork, authenticity, individuality, and mutual respect, where different perspectives are valued as a source of better ideas.
- Grow through a steep learning curve, high ownership, and broad room to shape your work.
- Benefit from a highly transparent environment with insights across the company and shared learning from all teams.
- Take part in special workations in inspiring locations such as a mountain hut in Austria, a finca in Mallorca, or a house by Lake Chiemsee.
- Work with modern office amenities, including food trucks, an outdoor pool, a rooftop terrace with Alpine views, eGYM Wellpass membership, a comfortable office space, the office tree Benjamina, and regular after-work events.
Additional information
If you are excited to help shape the future of safety, the company would like to get to know you. Applicants are encouraged to share who they are, what motivates them, and why they want to build something meaningful together with the team.
