About Rocket Lab
Rocket Lab is a comprehensive space company offering from launch services to satellite manufacturing, aiming to democratize space access. Our Electron rocket is the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket, executing over 230 satellite deployments. We are developing Neutron, a medium-lift reusable launch vehicle for larger satellite constellations. Our Space Systems division delivers satellites and components for prominent missions including NASA's Moon and Mars programs and the James Webb Space Telescope.
Neutron Project
The Neutron team handles the design, testing, and launch facility preparation for the new Neutron rocket, including its Archimedes engines and U.S. launch/test sites. This role offers a chance to contribute to the first flight of a large rocket.
Position Overview
As Senior Software Engineer in Operations Software stationed in Auckland, you will design, develop, deploy, and support software components critical to launch vehicles and spacecraft operations. You'll have ownership over assigned engineering tasks and product features, working in a dynamic team focused on high-impact space missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Acquire, ingest, and store telemetry data from launch operations, spacecraft operations, system tests, simulations, and sub-system tests.
- Develop software, automated tests, and system architecture responding to feature requests and bug fixes.
- Create comprehensive operational documentation for software products.
- Use version control tools for code management and enforce code review standards.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Proficient in Git and issue tracking tools such as Redmine or Jira.
- Strong Golang development skills.
- Experience with high-performance scalable systems.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of network protocols including UDP, TCP, gRPC, and CCSDS.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban.
- Experience with Linux containerization and cloud application development.
- System administration and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) experience.
- Shared data model definition and Python programming skills.
