Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is for a motivated Trust Junior Doctor at approximately FY2 level to join a busy and progressive General Surgery service. The post is based at Ealing Hospital and offers broad exposure across general surgical care, including inpatient, outpatient, theatre, day surgery, and on-call work.

About the department

The General Surgery team delivers a wide range of surgical treatments and is supported by a group of eight consultant surgeons, with a strong emphasis on Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and General Surgery. The service is known for a high surgical workload and significant experience in acute operative care.

Ealing Hospital is noted for carrying out one of the highest numbers of “hot cholecystectomies” in the country, giving the post holder valuable hands-on exposure to urgent surgical practice.

Key duties

The role includes supporting inpatient wards and outpatient clinics, observing operations in main theatres and day surgery, and taking part in an on-call rota that covers long days, weekends, and night shifts.

The post holder will work a regular shift pattern, including nights, with an average working week of 40 hours.

Training and development

The department places strong emphasis on teaching and junior doctor development. Previous doctors in this post have progressed to secure a National Training Number in General Surgery.

Candidate profile

This post is particularly suited to applicants with at least four months of NHS experience who want to build their surgical and clinical skills in a supportive environment.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust serves Brent, Ealing, Harrow, and surrounding communities. Its workforce of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff cares for nearly one million people.
