Job description

About the organisation

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority looks after and safeguards one of Australia’s most celebrated coastal regions. Its work covers parks, reserves, marine environments, and well-known visitor destinations along the Great Ocean Road. In partnership with Traditional Owners, local communities, and other stakeholders, the organisation focuses on protecting environmental, cultural, and heritage values while enabling sustainable tourism and long-term conservation.

About the role

This role offers the chance to lead significant capital works projects across an iconic coastline. As the Senior Project Manager, you will guide projects from early concept stages through to final delivery, making sure outcomes are high quality and reflect community priorities, environmental protection, and cultural heritage obligations.

As part of the Capital Works Team, you will contribute to infrastructure delivery across parks, coastal assets, public facilities, and visitor experiences, while also supporting broader strategic and organisational goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of major capital works programs from start to finish, including projects often valued above $10 million.
  • Control project scope, budgets, schedules, risks, and quality standards.
  • Handle the administration and oversight of design and construction contracts.
  • Develop tender documents and coordinate procurement activities.
  • Manage consultants and contractors to achieve tender-ready designs and successful construction delivery.
  • Build strong engagement with communities, government bodies, and funding partners.
  • Prepare clear reporting materials such as project status updates, board submissions, and financial reports.
  • Produce business cases, project briefs, and governance documents.
  • Ensure work complies with OHS, cultural heritage, planning, and environmental obligations.
  • Support and coach team members, helping grow capability across the organisation.

What the organisation is seeking

  • A degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Management, or a closely related field.
  • Substantial background in managing complex capital works projects, with at least 5 years of experience, preferably in civil or building settings.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, procurement, and financial control.
  • Experience delivering projects in coastal or other sensitive environments is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management ability.
  • Well-developed skills in reporting, risk management, and project governance.
  • The confidence to lead, guide, and influence others in a team-based environment.
  • Hold a White Card and a current driver’s licence.

Benefits of joining

  • Contribute to projects that create real value for communities and the environment.
  • Be part of a collaborative organisation with a strong sense of purpose.
  • Work in a scenic coastal setting.
  • Lead high-impact infrastructure projects with significant value.
  • Help support sustainable land and coastal management for future generations.
