Job description

About the Company

Deputy is a worldwide SaaS business focused on workforce management, with teams based in Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, and London, as well as remote employees across the United States. Its platform supports more than 1.5 million workers and 375,000 workplaces in over 100 countries. The company is supported by leading global investors and has recently reached unicorn status.

Deputy is working to improve the world of work for hourly workers — the people who keep essential services and businesses running, such as baristas, nurses, cleaners, delivery drivers, florists, and factory workers. The company aims to transform frontline work with technology that helps businesses become more profitable, compliant, and productive, while also making workers more engaged and happier.

Deputy is also moving toward an AI-native way of working. Team members are expected to use AI tools thoughtfully and responsibly in their day-to-day work, with the support, training, and freedom to apply AI for ideas, problem-solving, and better ways of working.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Designer, you will help define the future of work for shift workers around the world by creating intuitive products that improve daily work experiences for businesses and their teams. This is a hands-on role with strategic influence, where your design work will directly shape product outcomes and customer value.

Team Environment

  • The design team regularly works through critiques, design jams, pair sessions, retrospectives, and strategy workshops to encourage creativity and development.
  • Team members support each other’s professional growth and personal goals.
  • The group offers clear growth paths and strong opportunities to progress.
  • Design has a meaningful voice in business decisions and helps drive measurable outcomes.
  • The team is guided by a strong mission, clear values, and a focused design strategy.
  • There are opportunities to spend time together in the office for design days and at social events.

Responsibilities

Your role will involve leading design work within a multi-disciplinary squad and building solutions that make shift work simpler, more engaging, and more rewarding.

  • Act as a strategic and influential product designer within a cross-functional product squad.
  • Create thoughtful product experiences that reduce complexity and improve daily work for shift workers and the businesses that rely on them.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers and Engineering Leads to shape the roadmap and turn ideas into shipped features.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer needs through research and evidence-based insight.
  • Set a clear vision for your design area and help evolve its long-term direction and impact.
  • Own the design process end to end, from research through to detailed execution with engineering support.
  • Ensure final designs are polished, accurate, and ready for implementation.

Experience and Skills

You should bring strong product design experience in SaaS, along with the ability to influence, collaborate, and simplify complex problems.

  • More than 5 years of product design experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role within a SaaS company.
  • A genuine interest in creating a more inclusive future for shift workers and the businesses that support them.
  • A strong track record of designing software products that deliver real value to users.
  • Comfort working through complex, regulation-related challenges for both workers and business owners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality design.
  • Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback and different viewpoints.
  • Ability to explain design choices clearly and persuasively.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, growing environment with ambiguity and change.
  • Bonus advantage if you have designed payroll or similar financial products.

Employee Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements, including a work-from-home stipend to support your setup.
  • Employee Share Ownership Plan so you can own part of Deputy.
  • Paid parental leave for eligible employees.
  • Group Salary Continuance Insurance for financial protection.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Extra leave options, including study support, celebration days, and volunteering leave.
  • Participation in global working groups that strengthen collaboration and belonging.
  • Opportunities to take part in annual hackathons.
  • Additional benefits such as novated leasing for electric vehicles, internet reimbursement, and more.

Equal Opportunity

Deputy values inclusion and equal opportunity. The company believes diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and skills strengthen innovation, and it welcomes applicants from a wide range of cultures and experiences.
