Job description
About Watercare
Watercare is entering a major growth phase, with plans to invest $14 billion over the next 10 years so it can keep supporting Auckland’s expanding population in a climate-resilient way. Spread across the decade, that works out to roughly $3.8 million invested each day.
About the role
This is a broad people-focused position within the expanding People team, working closely with Business Partners and the wider function. The role combines hands-on employment relations support with leadership of People and Capability ER initiatives, projects, and improvements.
You will also have a specialist contribution to make, helping put the organisation’s people pillars into practice and supporting projects that influence the business across the board.
What you may work on
- Supporting business leaders and Business Partners with employment relations matters and cases
- Advising on employment relations issues and staying current with relevant legislation
- Preparing meaningful people reporting and using workforce data to support better business decisions
- Contributing to the development of the organisation’s employment and industrial relations approach, where appropriate
- Managing the people calendar, operational trackers, and policy updates
- Helping design and deliver people solutions and projects that respond to changing business needs
- Supporting the creation and delivery of a people strategy aligned to business priorities and the company plan
About you
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys applying their expertise in practical ways and delivering work that makes a real difference.
You will bring strong people skills, confidence in working with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, deep employment relations knowledge, and a proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and coaching people leaders. You should also be comfortable moving between advisory work and project delivery.
Experience and background
- Experience in an HR Advisory, in-house legal, or Employment Relations Lead role
- Background supporting employment relations matters for senior stakeholders
- Strong understanding of employment legislation and the full employee lifecycle
What’s on offer
A competitive salary is available, along with a staff benefits package that includes training and development opportunities, life and income protection insurance, generous parental leave, and employee discounts with a range of major retailers.
