Job description
About Watercare
Watercare is investing heavily in the future of Auckland’s water infrastructure, with plans to spend $14 billion across the next 10 years. That works out to an average commitment of $3.8 million every day, aimed at supporting a growing city in a climate-resilient way.
About the role
An opportunity has opened for an Instrumentation Technician to join the team at the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position is suited to someone who is confident in instrumentation and enjoys solving technical problems that help keep drinking water and wastewater services running effectively for the Auckland community.
The purpose of the role is to make sure equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. The work includes testing, calibrating, installing, repairing, and inspecting control systems and monitoring equipment.
What you will do
- Keep instrumentation and control systems functioning as they should.
- Carry out installation and commissioning work for new additions or upgrades to existing systems.
- Respond to alarms from control systems as they occur.
- Escalate any systems that may be at risk to supervisors.
- Maintain clear and accurate calibration and testing records.
About you
To succeed in this role, you should have a solid background in instrumentation, along with a National Certificate in Industrial Instrumentation and Control Level 4 or an equivalent qualification. A current Electrical Registration would be an advantage.
You will be a self-motivated person with a positive attitude and a genuine interest in wastewater and water operations. You should also be able to show strong technical capability in process control systems, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems, particularly in a continuous process environment.
The role also calls for the ability to collaborate with technical specialists, lead where required, manage priorities independently, and maintain a sharp eye for detail. Strong troubleshooting ability and problem-solving skills are essential.
What’s on offer
- A competitive pay package.
- Access to training and development support.
- Life and income protection insurance coverage.
- Generous parental leave benefits.
- Employee discounts with a variety of major retailers.
