Job Overview

This role reports to the People & Culture Manager and partners closely with People & Culture, Finance, and operational leaders. The position provides specialist input across governance, reporting, and day-to-day payroll operations while ensuring alignment with New Zealand legislation. It is also responsible for defining best-practice payroll standards and leading process changes where needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and put in place payroll controls and governance structures.
• Improve payroll documentation, workflows, and system adoption.
• Work with internal teams to embed process changes into normal business operations.
• Track, study, and assess payroll rules, tax requirements, and superannuation regulations.
• Give practical compliance advice to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Create and maintain compliance documents, including matrix-based tracking tools.
• Serve as the payroll compliance specialist for the business.

Qualifications and Experience

A recognised payroll certification from an approved organisation is preferred. Strong knowledge of SuccessFactors and SAP, especially EC/ECP, would be an advantage.

• At least 4 years of payroll processing experience in a medium to large business.
• Experience with governance, controls, reporting, and payroll best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and apply complex payroll legislation in New Zealand.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, with a collaborative working style.
• A results-driven mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Proven experience in designing and delivering end-to-end process improvements.

Additional Information

• This is a residential role in the Otago region of New Zealand.
• Work follows a 9-day fortnight pattern: 5 days on, 2 off, 4 on, 3 off, with hours from 7:00am to 4:30pm.
