About the role

Square is hiring a Senior Partnerships Manager to take charge of a strategic partner portfolio in Australia. This position reports to the Partnerships Lead for APAC and centers on building partnerships that create measurable business growth for Square and its sellers.

The role is focused primarily on business development, while also requiring strong expertise in partner management. You will shape, negotiate, and grow partnerships across Australia, with an eye toward introducing successful practices to other markets when relevant.

The Australian partner ecosystem includes referral groups, distributors, service providers, technology platforms, and broader strategic networks. These relationships should drive lead generation, co-selling, co-marketing, and product activation, all while creating value for sellers.

This is a senior individual contributor role positioned at the intersection of business development, growth, product, and go-to-market strategy. You will define the direction for your partner portfolio and collaborate across functions globally and locally to turn that strategy into outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, negotiate with, and close high-value partners that strengthen Square’s capabilities and growth.
  • Lead senior-level negotiations and structure agreements that support long-term business goals.
  • Work closely with Product, Operations, Marketing, Sales, and Legal to ensure partnerships are executed smoothly and effectively.
  • Drive measurable impact through lead generation, seller acquisition, and pipeline contribution.
  • Launch partnership initiatives with clear go-to-market plans, co-marketing activities, and integrated roadmaps where needed.
  • Develop and maintain executive relationships with partners to create sustained value.
  • Set partnership KPIs, monitor performance, and refine strategy to improve results over time.

Experience and qualifications

Square is looking for someone with more than 8 years of experience in payments-related roles such as business development, strategic partnerships, or product partnerships.

The ideal candidate has a strong history of building, launching, and scaling partnerships, and can also source strong partner opportunities when necessary.

Success in this role requires excellent negotiation skills, strong relationship management, and a proven ability to work effectively with executive stakeholders.

You should be able to connect partnership strategy directly to business results such as seller acquisition and revenue growth.

Experience working across global teams and collaborating cross-functionally is important, along with the ability to execute locally within a distributed organization.

A background in SaaS, fintech, or payments is preferred. Experience in eCommerce is valuable, while in-store commerce experience is even more desirable.
