Senior Mechanical Manager – MEP Design & Coordination

About the Role

Samsung C&T India Pvt. Ltd. is looking for a seasoned Senior Mechanical Manager to oversee the mechanical (MEP) design coordination, carry out technical reviews, and manage site engineering for high-rise building projects in Mumbai. The role demands expertise in HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, infrastructure utilities, and ensuring smooth integration between design and construction processes while adhering to applicable regulations, standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Take charge of mechanical design coordination and provide prompt MEP design inputs that support civil construction work.
• Analyze Mechanical, Architectural, and Structural drawings to verify constructability and compliance with design requirements.
• Guarantee adherence to local authority norms, international codes, and relevant design standards.
• Validate mechanical design calculations across HVAC and air conditioning, ventilation, water demand and balance, hot water, storm drainage, firefighting, and solid waste management systems.
• Assess MEP infrastructure designs, including flood risk evaluation and mitigation strategies.
• Examine Design Basis Reports (DBR), Concept Design Reports, and submissions for technical soundness and project conformity.
• Create and review Builder's Work and fabrication drawings necessary for site implementation.
• Coordinate mechanical design interfaces with electrical systems, ELV, fire alarms, building management systems (BMS), and other MEP disciplines.
• Verify MEP space utilization, shaft dimensions, and service routing in alignment with Architectural and Structural plans.
• Identify and document design inconsistencies through Requests for Information (RFIs) when required.
• Liaise with consultants, contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies to secure approval and clarify design parameters.
• Review material submissions ensuring they satisfy project specs and on-site needs.
• Conduct regular site visits to oversee design execution and resolve technical challenges.
• Collaborate intimately with site construction teams to ensure alignment between design intent and onsite practices.
• Oversee fabrication timelines, procurement statuses, and delivery schedules of mechanical equipment/materials.
• Track project milestones and produce routine MEP progress reports with execution teams.
• Participate actively in design reviews, coordination sessions, and technical discussions.
• Offer practical engineering solutions promptly for construction-related issues.
• Lead and mentor the Mechanical Design Coordination team, guaranteeing effective stakeholder communication.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a credible university; a Master’s degree is a plus.
• Between 15 to 20 years of relevant experience in Mechanical (MEP) design, coordination, and site engineering.
• Experience specifically in high-rise building projects is mandatory.
• Background with reputed PMC, EPC, design consultancy, or international construction firms preferred.

Technical Expertise

• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and infrastructure utilities.
• Solid grasp of MEP coordination with architectural and structural disciplines.
• In-depth familiarity with NBC, IS Codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, IPC, and related international standards.
• Capability to review DBRs, concept reports, shop/fabrication/coordination drawings.
• Experience managing RFIs, conducting design reviews, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Awareness of BIM workflows and clash detection preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; experience with BIM/Revit/Navisworks considered advantageous.
