Job description
About the role
This position focuses on leading risk-oriented internal audits within capital projects and construction operations. The role calls for a strong audit foundation along with practical understanding of the risks that come with large, contract-heavy project environments.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and carry out risk-based internal audit reviews across the capital projects and construction portfolio, including joint venture structures, in line with the IIA International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
- Evaluate controls related to cost tracking, programme schedules, variation orders, claims handling, subcontractor oversight, and contract compliance.
- Build and apply Risk Control Matrices (RCMs), clearly separating design effectiveness from operating effectiveness across project control processes.
- Conduct fieldwork, collect supporting evidence, and prepare workpapers that can stand up to scrutiny and support well-reasoned audit conclusions.
- Prepare audit observations and contribute to report drafting, making sure findings are precise, evidence-backed, risk-ranked, and practical to act on.
- Work with project directors, commercial leads, and finance teams to review issues and agree on corrective action plans.
- Monitor outstanding findings until they are fully remediated and closed.
- Assist the Internal Audit Manager with planning and defining the scope of capital project audit assignments.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Professional credentials such as CIA, CPA, CFE, or an equivalent qualification are preferred, or the candidate should be actively pursuing one.
- At least 6-8 years of internal audit experience, with exposure to construction, EPC, or infrastructure project environments.
- Strong knowledge of EPC contract arrangements, joint venture governance, claims, variation orders, and project cost controls.
- Good capability in fieldwork execution, workpaper preparation, and report writing.
- Comfortable engaging directly with project and commercial stakeholders.
- Experience using risk-based audit approaches aligned to the IIA IPPF.
- Must be based in Doha, Qatar, or willing to relocate there.
