Senior Freelance Illustrator – Wine Labels

Project Overview

This assignment is for an experienced freelance illustrator to develop two front-label artworks for a new wine brand rooted in Greek mythology and inspired by the goddess Alectrona. The two labels must work as a paired composition: one for a red GSM blend and one for a Sauvignon Blanc. Each artwork should stand on its own while also feeling visually connected so that, when displayed together, they read as a cohesive diptych.

The GSM label should present Alectrona in full solar brilliance, while the Sauvignon Blanc label should show her in the cooler atmosphere of dawn light. Both pieces need to share the same underlying design language and layout, but they should be clearly distinguished through palette and mood. The preferred look is painterly, timeless, and emotionally rich, with a sense of motion and atmosphere. The style should avoid anything that feels cartoon-like, fantasy-driven, or overly decorative.

Detailed references covering color direction, composition, and mood will be shared, along with further guidance on the intended visual approach and final outputs.

Requirements

• Strong senior-level illustration background, ideally with experience in product packaging or label artwork
• A portfolio that shows a refined, painted, atmospheric, and timeless visual style
• Proven ability to turn mythological ideas and emotional themes into compelling imagery
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator, including the preparation of print-ready artwork
• Careful attention to detail, composition, and balanced color use
• Capability to provide layered source files and high-resolution production assets
• Responsiveness in communication and the ability to meet timelines
• Comfort working from supplied references and detailed creative direction

Eligibility

Applicants should be senior freelance illustrators with relevant portfolio work and availability to complete the project on a prompt schedule. Experience with wine labels, packaging, or similarly detailed print design work is preferred.

Additional Information

This is a contract-based onsite project in the United Kingdom. The brief emphasizes precise adherence to the provided creative direction, including palette, composition, and mood references. A second phase may include related back-label and promotional design work.
